Upulni Express
Upulni Express is a multi-vendor e-commerce marketplace. The project was a redesign and rebuild of an existing site, focused on a cleaner shopping experience, a guided seller onboarding flow and better product management for sellers.

The problem
The existing marketplace needed a modern redesign: a clearer storefront for buyers, and proper tools for multiple sellers to register, list products and manage their stores without manual help.
Approach
I rebuilt the frontend in React and the API in Node.js and Express, with MongoDB holding sellers, products and orders. Seller registration became a three-step flow — personal details, business details, review and submit — so onboarding is self-service.

Architecture
React frontend, Node.js and Express REST API, and MongoDB for flexible storage of vendors, products and orders. JavaScript across the whole stack.
Key decisions
Document database for varied product data
Products from different sellers and categories carry different attributes. MongoDB's flexible documents fit that better than a fixed relational schema at this stage.
Guided, multi-step seller onboarding
Breaking registration into short steps with a review stage reduces errors and makes it clear what information sellers need before they start.
