I build software businesses can rely on — and keep building on.

I'm Niwarthana Abayawardhana (HNS Abayawardhana), a full-stack developer based in Sri Lanka. I build web applications, SaaS products and React Native mobile apps, usually owning the whole stack: data model, APIs, interface and deployment.

Today I work at XGENLABS, building and deploying production applications for Australian enterprise and government clients. Before that I led a team of more than 20 interns at Gamage Recruiters, which taught me as much about planning and communication as about code.

I also take on projects directly with businesses and founders who want a developer that can take an idea from a rough brief to a working, deployed product.

How I work

Clear, written communication

Scope, decisions and progress are written down, so you always have a record of what was agreed and why. I ask questions early rather than guess.

Maintainable engineering

Typed code, a sensible structure and documentation, so the next developer — or your own team — can pick the project up without starting over.

Ownership of the outcome

I flag risks as soon as I see them and suggest simpler alternatives when a feature costs more than it is worth.

Honest about fit

If a project needs skills I do not have, I will tell you before we start rather than learn at your expense.

    Led a team of 20+ interns building in-house systems, including employee and intern management tools and a company website with an ML-powered chatbot.

    • Conducted technical interviews; received a recommendation letter for leadership and technical work

Working together remotely

I work from Sri Lanka (UTC+5:30) with clients in other countries. I do not have offices abroad — everything runs remotely, and the process is designed for that.

We agree meeting windows at the start of a project. Sri Lanka's working day overlaps with the UK morning and the Australian afternoon, and early-morning calls work for North America. Between calls, updates, questions and feedback are handled in writing, so nothing waits on both of us being online.

Each milestone ends with something you can click through on a staging link, and each decision that affects scope or cost is confirmed in writing before I act on it.
