Mobile apps

Cross-platform mobile app development with React Native

If your customers or staff need your product on their phones, a cross-platform app usually gets you to both iOS and Android faster than two native builds. I build React Native apps together with the APIs and cloud services behind them, the same stack I work with day to day on production mobile apps.

Who this is for

  • Businesses adding a mobile app to an existing web product
  • Startups that need iOS and Android from one codebase
  • Organisations building field or staff apps that sync with a central system

Problems this solves

  • Customers expect an app, but maintaining two native codebases is not realistic
  • Your web product has no mobile experience beyond a small browser window
  • Staff work from phones and need data that stays in sync with the office system

What is included

  • Scoping of screens, user flows and offline needs
  • React Native app for iOS and Android
  • API design and back-end development
  • Authentication, including Firebase Auth where it fits
  • Push notifications and device features as required
  • Preparation for App Store and Google Play submission

Technical capabilities

  • React Native and TypeScript
  • Express.js and PostgreSQL back ends
  • Firebase authentication and services
  • AWS (EC2, Amplify, S3)
  • Real-time data synchronisation

What you receive

  • iOS and Android builds
  • Back-end API and database
  • Source code and release notes
  • Support through the store review process

What affects scope and cost

Every quote is based on a written scope. These are the factors that usually move it the most:

  • Number of screens and user flows
  • Offline support and data sync requirements
  • Device features such as camera, location or push notifications
  • Whether a back end already exists
  • Store submission and account set-up

How to get started

  1. 01Send a short description of your project through the inquiry form — a few sentences is enough.
  2. 02We have a 30-minute video call at a time that suits your time zone.
  3. 03You receive a written scope with milestones and a quote for each.

Relevant experience

The React Native apps I have built at XGENLABS are client work, so they are not shown here as public case studies. There I build and deploy React Native apps alongside Next.js web apps for Australian enterprise and government clients, with Express.js and PostgreSQL back ends, AWS infrastructure and Firebase authentication. I am happy to talk through that experience in more detail on a call.

Questions about mobile apps

Why React Native instead of native development?

For most business apps, one codebase for iOS and Android reduces cost and keeps both platforms in step. If your app depends on heavy native features, I will say so during scoping.

Can the app share a back end with my website?

Yes. A shared API means the web app and mobile app read and write the same data, and business rules live in one place.

Who publishes the app to the stores?

The app is published under your own Apple and Google developer accounts. I prepare the builds and help with the submission and review process.

Have a project in mind?

Tell me what you are building and where you are stuck. I will come back with questions or next steps — and if I am not the right fit, I will say so.
